1FRL is pleased to announce the completion of a major commercial project for Valhalla Media at Passfield Mill, Hampshire. This three-year transformation has successfully converted a derelict site into a world-class recording facility, integrating industry-leading technology with precision architecture.

After three years of meticulous planning and construction, seeing the lights turn on at Valhalla Media is more than just a project milestone; it’s the realisation of a vision for music innovation.

The goal was clear: create a space that doesn’t just house technology, but breathes it.

The project required a total overhaul of the existing structure to meet modern performance standards. Key works included:

Major Structural Reinforcement: Stabilising the original mill framework.

Environmental Remediation: Safe removal and disposal of asbestos.

Roofing & Envelope: Full replacement of the building’s external roofing system.

To achieve a world-class style of facility, the architectural design focused heavily on acoustic isolation and precision outfitting. We implemented a three-skin compartmentalisation system across all recording studios, ensuring total sound decoupling and an optimal environment for music innovation.

Central to our brief was the creation of a memorable brand experience. The interior architecture was entirely brand-led, ensuring that the aesthetic identity of Valhalla Media was woven into the physical fabric of the building. By aligning spatial design with the client’s brand values, we delivered an environment that is as visually impactful as it is functional. After three years of technical development, design and construction, Valhalla Media is now a premier destination in Hampshire for high-end recording.
